Getting started

Resume Nexus works out of the box. Every plan, including the free trial, comes with a built-in AI provider (Claude Opus 5.5), so you can upload a job description and resumes and start screening right away. Bringing your own AI provider account is optional.

New accounts start with a 7-day free trial that includes every Professional feature: batch screening, job matching, and Excel/HTML export. The trial includes 10 screenings on the built-in AI. If you add your own API key, there is no cap during the trial. Trial data is kept for 7 days; a paid plan extends that to the plan's period on everything you have already uploaded. When the trial ends, pick a plan below to keep going.

Bring Your Own AI Provider (Optional)

You can connect your own AI provider account instead of using the built-in one. Reasons people do this: they want a specific model, they have their own usage agreement with a provider, or they want all AI spend on their own bill. Your key is encrypted at rest and only decrypted for the moment a screening runs.

Note that different models produce different score distributions, so results from your own model are not directly comparable to results from the built-in one.

Anthropic (Recommended)

Anthropic's Claude models power the built-in provider, so choosing Anthropic keeps your scores on the same scale as the default.

  1. Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in (or create an account).
  2. If your organization uses Workspaces, open the workspace you want to bill first. Keys created at the organization level are rejected by the API with a "not scoped to a workspace" error.
  3. Navigate to API Keys and click Create Key. Copy the key immediately.
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select Anthropic, paste your key, choose a model, click Test Connection, then Save.

Recommended model: Claude Opus 5.5 - the same model as the built-in provider. Claude Sonnet 5.5 is a good lower-cost option; Claude Haiku 5.5 is the cheapest and fastest.

Pricing: Anthropic charges per token (roughly per word). A typical resume screening costs a few cents on Opus 5.5 and well under a cent on Haiku 5.5. See Anthropic pricing for current rates.

OpenAI

  1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in (or create an account).
  2. Navigate to API Keys in the left sidebar and click Create new secret key.
  3. Copy the key - you won't be able to see it again.
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select OpenAI, paste your key, choose a model, click Test Connection, then Save.

Recommended model: GPT-4.1. GPT-4.1 Mini is a good budget option.

Ollama (Self-Hosted)

Ollama lets you run AI models locally on your own hardware. All processing stays on your machine - no data leaves your network.

  1. Install Ollama from ollama.com.
  2. Pull a model: ollama pull llama3 (or another model of your choice).
  3. Start the Ollama server (it runs on http://localhost:11434 by default).
  4. In Resume Nexus, go to Settings, select Ollama, enter the endpoint URL and model name, and click Save.

Note: Self-hosted models vary significantly in quality. Larger models (70B+ parameters) generally produce better screening results but require substantial hardware.

FAQ

Do I need my own API key?

No. The built-in provider is included on every plan and the free trial. Add your own key only if you want a different model or provider, or want AI usage billed to your own account.

Is my key safe?

Yes. Your API key is encrypted at rest using Fernet symmetric encryption before it's stored. The plaintext key is never logged, never returned in API responses, and only decrypted momentarily inside the AI processing service when running a screening. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Which provider should I pick?

If you bring your own key, Anthropic with Claude Opus 5.5 matches the built-in provider, so your scores stay comparable. OpenAI with GPT-4.1 is a solid alternative. If data sovereignty is your top priority, use Ollama to keep everything on your own infrastructure.

Can I switch providers or go back to the built-in one?

Yes. Change your provider and model at any time in Settings. To return to the built-in provider, use "Remove saved key" under the API key field. Different models may produce slightly different scores for the same resume - this is normal and expected.
